Wimbledon 2013 | Novak Djokovic v Tommy Haas July 1, 2013

Wimbledon 2013 | Novak Djokovic v Tommy Haas July 1, 2013

The  4th round of Wimbledon 2013 line-up will see a repeat of a French Open quarter-final between Novak Djokovic and Tommy Haas. On that occasion, Tommy Haas had exerted a lot of energy, most of it in a third round epic against John Isner, but this time round, and on the grass, I think this will be a much closer affair. Novak Djokovic has sailed through his first three matches and on Saturday, he barely made an unforced error in a 6-3 6-2 6-2 rout of Jeremy Chardy. Haas lost the opening set of his third round match to Feliciano Lopez, but rebounded extremely well to post a promising four set win against the Eastbourne champion. Haas has beaten Djokovic this year in Miami and at Wimbledon too in 2009. The German player has weapons to threaten Djokovic, but I have to sit up and take note of the Djokovic's progress through the draw and I think the quarter-finals beckon for sure.

Haas’ long and injury-riddled career has seen him make semi-final appearances at the Australian Open (1999, 2002, and 2007) and the Wimbledon (in 2009). The world No. 13 has won three out of his eight clashes with Djokovic, including a straight-set demolition in the 2013 Miami Masters. Though the Djokovic is the favourite in this draw, it could end up being a crackerjack of a game.

Andy Murray — one of the top seeds to have endured Wimbledon 2013 — has won both his clashes with the 30-year-old Russian. Mikhail Youznhy (world No. 26) is no mug though, with 10-2 record since the Rome Masters, and two straight-set victores in his last three games. Though the odds are heavily in favour of the Andy Murray, this match has the potential to surprise us.

The ladies semifinal Wimbledon 2013 match between Serena Williams and Sabine Lisicki will be played in July 1, 2013 on Centre Court.

The defending champion Serena Williams seems unstoppable at the moment, recording her 600th career victory with a 61-minute rout of veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm in the third round. Sabine Lisicki — who started her Wimbledon campaign with a 20-12 win record and a singles title this year — has been in good form as well, overcoming World No. 13 Samantha Stosur in her previous match.

Serena Williams, right now on a 34 match winning-streak, will also be eyeing her sister Venus’ decade-long record of 35. Serena Williams displayed excellent performance in French Open and Wimbledon 2013 thus, Williams is the favorite of the tournament. As expected, Williams probably overcome Lisicki and proceed to the Wimbledon 2013 finals.

Blackhawks Parade

The Chicago police said more than two million people turned out to celebrate the BlackhawksStanley Cup win. Fans dressed in the team’s colors, red and black, started streaming into the city early Friday and by midmorning were lined up along the parade route. Later fans streamed into Grant Park, where a huge throng waited for players to speak.

Commissioner Gary Bettman will try to close a deal Monday allowing NHL players to compete in the Sochi Olympics next winter. He said the league would meet in New York with the players’ association, the International Olympic Committee and International Ice Hockey Federation.

The Blackhawks' run for the cup was definitely worth celebrating. Blackhawks entered the postseason with the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference and lost just six games en route to the Stanley Cup Finals. Once there they engaged in a highly entertaining series that featured five overtimes in three of the six games. The series clincher was no different in terms of entertainment. The game seemed to be headed to a seventh game with Boston up 2-1 with less than two minutes left in the third period, but the Blackhawks scored back-to-back goals from Brian Bickell and Dave Bolland to give Chicago the 3-2 lead with 58 seconds left. It was a devastating finish to a well-deserved championship, and a moment that is sure to go down in Chicago sports history.

Wimbledon 2013 | Serena Williams v Kimiko Date-Krumm June 29, 2013

Serena Williams takes on Kimiko Date-Krumm later today in the third round of Wimbledon 2013 (17:30 BST start). Date-Krumm has caused a big stir at this year's Wimbledon, and let's not beat about the bush, it's because of her age.

Like Tommy Haas, the Japanese player has been receiving attention for being one of the most notorious golden oldies in professional tennis. It's a miracle that she's still playing at this level at 42 years of age, and an even bigger achievement that she's set up a third round meeting with Serena Williams. This match promises to end the feel good Date-Krumm run, as Serena has been at her all-conquering and all-powerful best in the early stages at the All-England Club.

Wimbledon 2013 | Serena Williams v Kimiko Date-Krumm June 29, 2013
Wimbledon 2013 | Serena Williams v Kimiko Date-Krumm June 29, 2013

Her unbeaten streak shows no signs of going away just yet, and she's still got everything to play for. With Steffi Graf's slam record in her sights, Williams won't be giving away any cheap points. Serena didn't lose more than three games in any set in her two opening matches at Wimbledon 2013 and it would be a surprise to see Date-Krumm do a better job than any of her previous opponents. At 5'4", the evergreen outsider is renowned more for her scrambling abilities than for explosive groundstrokes or a venomous serve, so it's hard to see how she'll beat the world No. 1. Grass can sometimes be a leveller, but it's arguably Serena's best surface so we can forget about that.

Wimbledon 2013 | Serena Williams v Kimiko Date-Krumm June 29, 2013

Whilst both players have been on the tour for years, this will be their first competitive meeting. It will be intriguing to see how well Date-Krumm's game stacks up but we're not anticipating an upset.

Wimbledon 2013 | Novak Djokovic v Jeremy Chardy June 29, 2013

Wimbledon 2013 | Novak Djokovic v Jeremy Chardy June 29, 2013

Novak Djokovic takes on Jeremy Chardy this afternoon in the third round of Wimbledon 2013.

Jeremy Chardy has displayed a lot of dedication over the past few years and deservedly he now sits at a career high of No. 25 in the world rankings. Even so, he appears to be a lamb to the slaughter at Wimbledon 2013 as he'll take on world No. 1 Novak Djokovic later today.

Following the defeats of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, Djokovic's status as the favourite of Wimbledon 2013 for the title has been massively strengthened. Also, whilst several other star players have fallen by the wayside, Djokovic has managed to cruise through his opening matches, not once seeming in danger of making an exit. There's no real reason to expect that to change against Chardy.
Wimbledon 2013 | Novak Djokovic v Jeremy Chardy June 29, 2013
Wimbledon 2013 | Novak Djokovic v Jeremy Chardy June 29, 2013

Djokovic has won all six of the previous meeting between the pairing, and to make matters worse for the Frenchman every win has been in straight sets. Chardy is also one of the men who Djokovic dismantled (6-4 6-1 6-1) on his way to the Wimbledon 2011 title. Past form and current form point to one outcome here. Unless Chardy can produce the performance of his career, he'll be packing his bags this evening.

Wimbledon 2013 | Novak Djokovic advances

World Number 1  Novak Djokovic cruised into the third-round at Wimbledon on Thursday after he defeated American Bobby Reynolds 7-6, 6-3, 6-1 on Centre Court. Reynolds was the last American standing, and his ouster marks the first time in over a century that no one from the USA advanced to the third round. Although ranked 156th in the world, Reynolds acquitted himself well against Djokovic, routinely fighting off break points and testing Djokovic in the first set. Djokovic, the 2011 Wimbledon champion, avoided the fate of high seeds Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, and he remains the last former Wimbledon winner in the men's portion of the bracket. "It is a bit strange that so many top players lost in one or two days, but as I said, it is a Grand Slam and all the lower-ranked players have an extra motivation to perform their best. They have nothing to lose," he said.

Wimbledon 2013 | Serena Williams advances

Defending champion Serena Williams rolled into Wimbledon's third round with a 6-3, 6-2 win over French teenager Caroline Garcia on Thursday. The match took an hour and seven minutes. Williams won her 33rd straight match as she aims for a sixth Wimbledon singles crown. She'll next face Japan's Kimiko Date-Krumm, who, at 42 is the oldest woman in Wimbledon's third round since the open era began in 1969, according to BBC Sport. Williams lost just three points on serve in the first set, but Garcia made her work hard throughout. "I think Caroline's a really good player," Williams said, via BBC Sport. "I played her at the French Open, and she played really well, so it was good to get another win today. "I really love these moments when I'm out there. I live and die for these moments, and it's really fun." Also Thursday, American teenager Madison Keys beat 30th-seeded Mona Barthel of Germany 6-4, 6-2 to reach the third round in her Wimbledon debut. She'll face 2012 Wimbledon runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland next. Rain forces tourney to close Centre Court roof Showers caused the tournament's first rain delay, prompting officials to close the retractable Centre Court roof installed in 2009. Radwanska was beating Mathilde Johansson of France 6-1, 4-2 when the match was stopped to close the roof. After a half-hour delay, Radwanska closed out the second set, 6-3.

Wimbledon 2013 | Serena Williams v Caroline Garcia | June 27, 2013

Serena Williams takes on Caroline Garcia this afternoon in the second round of Wimbledon 2013 (13:00 BST start). Serena Williams continues to be the dominant force in the WTA and her status as the favourite to win this year's Wimbledon title - if it was ever in doubt - has been strengthened by the unexpected exits of Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka on Wednesday. Serena Williams made a strong start to her campaign earlier in the week beating Mandy Minella 6-1 6-3, and should be ready for the challenge of Garcia. Serena Williams faced Caroline Garcia just a few weeks ago at the French Open. She took apart the young gun in straight sets in that clash, leaving the court as a 6-1 6-2 victor. Playing on grass is a different proposition entirely, but hardly a problematic one for the reigning Wimbledon and Olympic champion.

Wimbledon 2013 | Serena Williams v Caroline Garcia | June 27, 2013

Credit is due to Caroline Garcia though. She's gone through qualifying and a tough first round clash against Jie Zheng without dropping a single set. She's clearly an adept player on the SW19 lawns and could well be capable of going a long way here at some point in her career. Following the result in Paris, and with Serena's outstanding form in mind, any prediction other than a Serena victory would be wild. Any talk of the surface being slippery doesn't necessarily hint towards an upset either. You only need to look back to the 2012 Madrid Masters and the controversial blue clay to see that Serena handles adverse conditions far better than most.

Wimbledon 2013 | Novak Djokovic v Bobby Reynolds June 27

In the Day 4 of Wimbledon 2013 tennis tournament, world number 1 Novak Djokovic will face Bobby Reynolds from USA.

The match between Novak Djokovic and Bobby Reynolds will start at 1 pm in June 27 and it will be played on Centre Court.

After Roger Federer and French Open champion Rafael Nadal is eliminated from Wimbledon 2013, Novak Djokovic seems to be the only favorite of the tournament. However, many famous players are defeated in first rounds this year and Wimbledon 2013 is continuously giving us surprises.

Though, Novak Djokovic seems to be the favorite of the match(even Wimbledon 2013), it is not guaranteed that we will not see any surprises.

Aaron Hernandez arrested | Odin Lloyd murder

Aaron Hernandez arrested | Odin Lloyd murder

Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez drove his friend to a remote spot in an industrial park in the dead of night before he murdered him, still fuming from a fight at a nightclub three nights before, prosecutors alleged in a Massachusetts court on Wednesday. "He orchestrated the crime from the beginning and took steps to conceal and destroy evidence," First Assistant District Attorney Bill McCauley told an Attleboro District Court. Hernandez pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and five firearms charges, including possessing a large-capacity firearm, more than a week after the body of Odin Lloyd was found near his Massachusetts home. A judge ordered him to be held without bail because of the murder charge.

Wearing a white V-neck shirt, red sports shorts, and handcuffs, Hernandez showed no emotion as prosecutors laid out a bruising account of what allegedly happened the night semi-professional football player Lloyd was killed, citing what they say is surveillance camera footage, text messages, and witnesses who were working the overnight shift who heard gunshots as evidence. Hernandez wiped tears from his face at the very end of the arraignment. The bullet-punctured body of Lloyd, 27, was found by a jogger on June 17 in an industrial park about one mile away from the ex-tight end's North Attleborough home. The death was ruled a homicide.

Prosecutors said that the killing was prompted by a fight between the two friends during a trip on June 14 to a Boston nightclub. On June 17, Hernandez and two friends allegedly picked Lloyd up at his house at 2:30 a.m. Surveillance footage from Hernandez's house shows him leaving earlier in the night with a weapon, prosecutors said. After getting into the car, Lloyd allegedly texted a family member, asking, "Did you see who I am with," prosecutors said. He then texted that it was Hernandez and followed it up with, "Just so you know" in another text message, the prosecutors alleged during the arraignment. Later that morning, between 3:23 a.m. and 3:27 a.m., employees who were working the overnight shift at the industrial park where Lloyd's body would later be found reported hearing gunshots, authorities said. It's not clear who investigators believe fired the shots. "It is at bottom a circumstantial case. It is not a strong case," Michael Fee, Hernandez's attorney, who had asked for bail, said in court. But prosecutors allege home security videos from Hernandez's house show him with firearms after Lloyd had been murdered, and show a Nissan Altima — the same type of car Hernandez had rented — going to and coming from the site where Lloyd's body would later be found. He was seen exiting the vehicle at 3:29 a.m. with a gun at his home on the surveillance footage, prosecutors claim, shortly after authorities say Lloyd was killed. Hernandez, 23, was placed in handcuffs and put in a police cruiser just before 9 a.m. on Wednesday by Massachusetts State Police and North Attleborough police. Authorities have searched his home, on the Rhode Island line not far from the Patriots' stadium, several times over the past week.Less than two hours after the arrest, the Patriots announced they were releasing Hernandez.

"A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do," a statement from the team read. The Patriots drafted Hernandez in 2010. Last summer, the team gave Hernandez a five-year contract that is worth $40 million, including a signing bonus of $12.5 million. The investigation also cost Hernandez his endorsement contract with CytoSport, which makes Muscle Milk and other supplements for athletes, last week. A call to Fee, Hernandez's attorney, was not immediately returned. Separately, Hernandez is also embroiled in a civil lawsuit by a Connecticut man, Alexander Bradley, who alleges Hernandez shot him in the eye after the two left a Miami strip club in February. According to a Palm Beach County police report, the case was abandoned because Bradley refused to cooperate with authorities.Hernandez lives with his fiancee and their infant, according to Fee.

Who is Wendy Davis?

The Fort Worth Democrat who stood for eleven hours to filibuster a bill in the Texas State Senate that would place new restrictions on abortion clinics and ban the practice after 20 weeks of pregnancy? Here’s what everyone needs to know. Wendy Davis knows about single motherhood, and poverty. The 50-year-old Wendy Davis had to care for her three siblings at the age of 14 for her single mother, and became a single mother herself at the age of 19. She knows the law. Wendy Davis became the first person in her family to graduate from college, with a degree from Texas Christian University and then Harvard Law School. She clerked, litigated, and spent a few years in the title insurance business before starting her own practice for federal and local government affairs, real estate, and contract compliance.

Wendy Davis put in her political time. Wendy Davis spent nine years on the Fort Worth City Council, focusing on neighborhood economic development. When she was elected to the Texas State Senate in 2008, she became the 12th Democrat in the upper chamber–just enough to keep the Republicans from closing off debate on bills. She’s got eclectic interests. Wendy Davis has sponsored bills on everything from cancer prevention to payday lending to protecting victims of sexual assault to government transparency. She’s one of the more successful users of the filibuster. In 2011, she used the tactic against a budget that underfunded the state’s public schools by $5 billion, and two years later got most of the money replaced.

Republicans keep trying to shut her down. Her 2008 victory was a squeaker over the Republican incumbent, and she pulled out another in 2012 after federal courts threw out a Republican gerrymandering plan that would have put her in a much more conservative district. Again, she became the last vote needed to deny Republicans a filibuster-proof majority (The 2012 firebombing of her office appears to have been a random act by a mentally ill homeless person). After her 2011 filibuster, the Republican-led house stripped her of her position on the education committee. She’s got her eye on higher office. Governor, anyone? The fundraising comes easy, anyway. She’s got “fashion icon status” in the state Capitol. At least that’s what The New York Times says. For this filibuster, she wore pink sneakers.

Wednesday's second round clash is likely to have spectators reaching for their earplugs as two of the game's biggest shriekers step out on court Maria Sharapova is famous for raising the decibels on the tennis court with her familiar shriek known to leave audiences reaching to protect their eardrums.

But she has a rival in the screeching stakes in the form of her Wimbledon second round opponent Michelle Larcher de Brito. The 20-year-old Portuguese no.131 is better known for her high-pitched howls than her tennis and has even been criticised for putting players off their game with the curious noises emanating from her end of the court.

For a preview of what's to come, take a look at some clips of their shrieking below - but make sure you turn the volume down first...

Wimbledon second round matches will start at 11.30 am in No.2 Court. Maria Sharapova is of course, the favorite of the match in Wimbledon 2013. Maria Sharapova was defeated by Serena Williams in French Open Finals in 2013

Roger Federer will continue his Wimbledon campaign on Wednesday against Sergiy Stakhovsky. Federer suddenly has a wide-open draw thanks to the absence of Rafael Nadal.

Roger Federer and Sergiy Stakhovsky will be going head-to-head for the second time in their careers when they clash in the Wimbledon second round on Wednesday. Their only previous encounters came in the 2011 Dubai quarterfinals, with Federer cruising 6-3, 6-4.

Wimbledon 2013 | Roger Federer v Sergiy Stakhovsky June 26, 2013
Wimbledon 2013 | Roger Federer v Sergiy Stakhovsky June 26, 2013

The seven-time champion's Monday opener at the All-England Club was even more straightforward. He hammered Victor Hanescu 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 in a mere one hour and nine minutes to kick off the proceedings on Centre Court. Federer, who is 27-7 for the season, has bounce back nicely from a blowout quarterfinal loss to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the French Open. Prior to his win over Hanescu, the world No. 3 captured a grass-court title in Halle.

Stakhovsky has been in mostly dreadful form ever since the start of last season. The Ukrainian registers down at No. 116 in the world and he is a mere 8-10 at the ATP level this year. Stakhovsky, though, capitalized on a favorable draw and crushed clay-courter Rogerio Dutra Silva 6-4, 6-0, 6-4 in his opener.

The good fortune, of course, is coming to an abrupt halt for the underdog now that Federer is on the other side of the net. Federer is a seven-time Wimbledon champion and he is a heavy favorite to reach at least the semifinals now that Rafael Nadal is out of the tournament. All signs point to a dominant three-set victory for the Swiss.

Confederations Cup 2013 | Spain v Italy June 27, 2013

In the second match of the 2013 Confederations Cup semifinals, Italy will face world No. 1 Spain on Thursday in Fortaleza for the right to advance to the final.

Both teams come into the match with injuries, but each is hoping its players will step up on the pitch in Brazil. Spain placed third in the 2009 Confederations Cup, while this is Italy's first trip to the semifinals. Let's take a look at the keys to Thursday's match.

Both Italy and Spain will be without several key players in Thursday's clash. For Italy, top forward Mario Balotelli and defender Ignazio Abate have both been ruled out, per FIFA.com. For Spain, midfielder Cesc Fabregas and striker Roberto Soldado have been ruled out. There are also question marks surrounding Italy's Andrea Pirlo (calf) and Riccardo Montolivo, per the report.

Italy headed into the 2013 Confederations Cup with a 4-3-2-1 formation, aimed at directing the attack through Balotelli.

But, after Balotelli's injury, coach Cesare Prandelli could go with a 3-5-2 formation, slotting Alberto Gilardino into Balotelli's place, according to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, via FIFA.com. Stephan El Shaarawy or Sebastian Giovinco will reportedly be the option alongside Gilardino. Giovinco scored the game-winner against Japan in the group stage. El Shaarawy has played one game for Italy in the tournament, registering one shot (zero on goal). As for Spain, Fabregas has played in three games in the tournament (two starts), notching an assist. Soldado has two starts, registering one goal on four shots on goal.

Italy | Confederations Cup 2013 | Spain v Italy June 27, 2013
Confederations Cup 2013 | Spain v Italy June 27, 2013

Balotelli's absence may hurt Italy more. He had registered a team-high two goals in the tournament before going down to injury, ranking fourth in the Castrol Index Top 10. Italy was able to allow just one goal against disappointing Mexico in the group stage, but also allowed three goals to Japan and four goals to Brazil. A lot of the emphasis has been on Balotelli's absence, but the Italian defense may actually be the more important factor in Thursday's clash. After all, Spain has scored a tournament-best 15 goals already, with the scoring coming from various players, including Fernando Torres, who boasts five goals in the Confederations Cup this year. Going up against the world No. 1 is enough of a challenge for Italy, especially without Balotelli.

The Italians must capitalize on their scoring opportunities, and there aren't likely to be many. They don't want to be overly aggressive, considering Spain's ability to score in a heartbeat off a defensive stop, but they do want to be on point early. In the 4-2 defeat to Brazil in the group stage, Brazil's Dante scored in first-half stoppage time, giving the Brazilians a 1-0 lead headed into the second half. That may have been just one goal, but it gave the Brazilians a psychological advantage early on. If Italy scores first on Thursday, perhaps the side can take away some of Spain's thunder.

Brazil defender David Luiz is available for Wednesday's last-four clash against Uruguay after recovering from a bruised leg. Midfielder Paulinho is set to return to the starting XI after missing the 4-2 win over Italy with an ankle injury, but Bernard (foot) is a doubt.

Hulk is expected to start ahead of Lucas Moura in attack, despite failing to impress in the group stage. Uruguay captain Diego Lugano returns after serving a one-match ban for accumulating two yellow cards, but fellow defender Andres Scotti is ruled out after getting sent off in the 8-0 win over Tahiti. Coach Oscar Tabarez is likely to persist with the attacking trio of Luis Suarez, Diego Forlan and Edinson Cavani despite Abel Hernandez's four-goal haul against the Pacific islanders.

Two goals. Seventeen seconds apart. A second Stanley Cup victory in four seasons for the Chicago Blackhawks. Seventy-six seconds away from defeat and a trip home for a decisive seventh game, Bryan Bickell tied it.

Then, while the Bruins were settling in for another overtime in a series that has already had its share, Dave Bolland scored to give Chicago a 3-2 victory in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals on Monday night.

The back-to-back scores in about the time it takes for one good rush down the ice turned a near-certain loss into a championship clincher, stunning the Boston Bruins players and their fans and starting the celebration on the Blackhawks' bench with 59 seconds to play. "We thought we were going home for Game 7. You still think you're going to overtime and you're going to try to win it there. Then Bolly scores a huge goal 17 seconds later," said Chicago forward Patrick Kane, who won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the postseason's most valuable player.

"It feels like the last 58 seconds were an eternity." The team that set an NHL record with a 24-game unbeaten streak to start the lockout-shortened season won three straight games after falling behind 2-1 in the best-of-seven finals, rallying from a deficit in the series and in its finale.

Corey Crawford made 23 saves, and Jonathan Toews returned from injury to add a goal and an assist in the first finals between Original Six teams since 1979. "I still can't believe that finish. Oh my God, we never quit," Crawford said. "I never lost confidence. No one in our room ever did." Trailing 2-1, Crawford went off for an extra skater and the Blackhawks converted when Toews fed it in front and Bickell scored from the edge of the crease to tie the score. Perhaps the Bruins expected it to go to overtime, as three of the first four games in the series did. They sure seemed to be caught off-guard on the ensuing faceoff. Chicago skated into the zone, sent a shot on net and after it deflected off Michael Frolik and the post it went right to Bolland, who put it in the net. "It's unbelievable man," Crawford said.

"So much hard work to get to this point. Fantastic effort by everyone on the team." The Blackhawks on the ice gathered in the corner, while those on the bench began jumping up and down. It was only a minute later, when Boston's Tuukka Rask was off for an extra man, that Chicago withstood Boston's final push and swarmed over the boards, throwing their sticks and gloves across the ice. "In 2010, we didn't really know what we were doing. We just, we played great hockey and we were kind of oblivious to how good we were playing," said Toews, who scored his third goal of the playoffs to tie it 1-1 in the second period, then fed Bickell for the score that tied it with 76 seconds to play. "This time around, we know definitely how much work it takes and how much sacrifice it takes to get back here and this is an unbelievable group," Toews said. "We've been through a lot together this year and this is a sweet way to finish it off." The Bruins got 28 saves from Rask, who was hoping to contribute to an NHL title after serving as Tim Thomas' backup when Boston won it all two years ago. "It's obviously shocking when you think you have everything under control," Rask said quietly, standing at his locker with a blue baseball cap on backward and a towel draped over his shoulders. The sold-out TD Garden had begun chanting "We want the Cup!" after Milan Lucic's goal put the Bruins up 2-1 with eight minutes left, but it fell silent after their team coughed up the lead. "Probably toughest for sure, when you know you're a little bit over a minute left and you feel that you've got a chance to get to a Game 7," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "And then those two goals go in quickly."

The arena was almost empty -- except for a few hundred fans in red Blackhawks sweaters who filtered down to the front rows -- when NHL commissioner Gary Bettman handed the 35-pound Cup to Toews, who left Game 5 with an undisclosed injury and wasn't confirmed for the lineup until the morning skate.

The Chicago captain skated the Cup right over the crease in which the Blackhawks mounted the comeback and in front of the fans in Blackhawks sweaters who lined the front row behind the net. Toews banged on the glass while the remaining Bruins fans headed up the runways. He then continued the tradition of handing it from player to player before the team settled to the side of the faceoff circle for a picture with the trophy they will possess for the next 12 months. The Blackhawks opened the season on a 21-0-3 streak and coasted to the Presidents' Trophy that goes to the team with the best regular-season record. But regular-season excellence has not translated into playoff success: Chicago is the first team with the best record to win the Cup since the 2008 Detroit Red Wings. The Blackhawks went through Minnesota in five games and Detroit in seven, rallying in the Western Conference semifinals from a 3-1 deficit and winning Game 7 in overtime. They got through the defending NHL champion Los Angeles Kings in five games to return to the Cup finals, where Boston was waiting.

The Blackhawks won the first game at home in three overtimes but dropped Game 2 -- another overtime -- and fell behind 2-1 in the series when it returned to Boston.

But since then, it's been all Chicago. The tightly contested finals -- with three games going a total of five overtimes -- may help fans forget the lockout that shortened the season to 48 games and pushed back the opener to Jan. 19. That left the teams still playing ice hockey on a 95-degree day in Boston on June 24, matching the latest date in NHL history. Fans in their Bruins sweaters filtered into the air conditioned TD Garden to see the last game in Boston for the year with the hope there would be one more in Chicago: a seventh game just like two years ago, when the Bruins rallied from a 3-2 deficit, then won in Vancouver for their first NHL championship since 1972. Both teams were bolstered by the return of star forwards, Selke Trophy winner Toews of Chicago and Patrice Bergeron, who was a finalist for the award given to the top defensive forward in the league.

Wimbledon 2013 | Rafael Nadal eliminated in first round June 24, 2013

Maybe it was fatigue, maybe it was his balky left knee acting up again, or maybe it was the grassy courts at Wimbledon, but Rafael Nadal was in a shocking first-round loss to Belgian Steve Darcis on Monday. Darcis, unseeded and ranked 135 in men's singles, won in straight sets 7-6, 7-6, 6-4 over No. 5 Nadal, fresh off his record eighth French Open title. Darcis scored the match point on a resounding ace.

Nadal, a 12-time Grand Slam winner, had never lost in the first round of a Grand Slam event and was 34-0 heading into Monday's match. As Nadal battled in the third set, it became increasingly obvious that his left knee, which forced Nadal into a seven-month hiatus last year, was giving him increased pain.

After the match, Nadal was dismissive of any lingering injury. "It's not the day to talk about these kinds of things. I am confident that I will have a good recovery and be ready for the next tournaments," he said.

Asked if he was targeting Nadal's knee, Darcis said to ESPN, "I think if you start to focus on him, it's tougher. I tried to focus on myself." Nadal's lateral movement was clearly inhibited, and he was unable to reach shots he customarily returns. That may have partially been a result of his transition from the clay courts at Roland Garros to the grass of Wimbledon.

"In grass it's difficult to adapt yourself, to adapt your game when you don't have a chance to play before. I didn't have that chance this year. It's tougher and I didn't find my rhythm," Nadal said. It's the second-straight year Nadal has faced an early Wimbledon exit. Last year year he was beaten in the second round by Lukas Rosol, which prompted Nadal to sit out and let his knee recover for the rest of the year.

Since returning, Nadal has won seven of the nine tournaments he's entered. He's the first French Open winner to lose in the first round at Wimbledon since 1997. After the match, Darcis was nearly at a loss for words. It was his first win over a top-five opponent. "I don't know what to say right now. I'm really happy," he told ESPN. Darcis owned a 2-6 singles record this year before Monday's triumph. Nadal has won two Wimbledon championships.

Done with her pre-tournament verbal volleying with Serena Williams,

Maria Sharapova improved to 11-0 in first-round matches at Wimbledon by beating 37th-ranked Kristina Mladenovic of France 7-6 (5), 6-3 Monday.

Meanwhile, second-seeded Victoria Azarenka overcame a right knee injury from a scary fall for a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Maria Joao Koehler in her opener. The world number 3  Sharapova, who won her first Grand Slam title at the All England Club in 2004, struggled through the opening set.

But at 5-all in the tiebreaker, Sharapova hit a cross-court backhand winner to earn a set point, which she quickly converted with an over-the-shoulder backhand volley winner off Mladenovic's lob. Sharapova drew attention over the weekend by delivering a sharp news-conference rebuke to Williams over critical comments attributed to the top-seeded American in a recent magazine article. Williams has won their last 13 head-to-head matches, including the French Open final this month. Azarenka won the first set easily and was ahead 1-0 in the second when she slipped and fell. She was sobbing on the court and received treatment during an injury timeout. She played the rest of the match with a heavy wrap on her right knee.

After resuming, Azarenka was limping noticeably and winced after several points. But Koehler, making her Wimbledon debut, did not have the power or consistency to make Azarenka, the two-time Australian Open titlist, pay for her diminished mobility. Wimbledon also produced its first upset on the opening day of the tournament. Puerto Rican teenager Monica Puig slugged 38 winners and eliminated fifth-seeded Sara Errani of Italy 6-3, 6-2 on Monday in the first match on Court 18 of the grass-court Grand Slam.
